Join the Long Island Library Resources Council for a powerful author conversation with Dr. Janet Bond Brill, author of Little Edna’s War, a deeply moving Holocaust memoir told through the extraordinary first-person story of Edna Szurek, a Jewish child who survived Nazi-occupied Warsaw and became one of the youngest decorated soldiers of the Polish resistance. Born near Mila 18, later known as the command bunker of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Edna’s childhood was shaped by courage, danger, concealment, and resistance.
In this book talk, Dr. Brill will discuss the process of transforming survivor testimony into a compelling memoir, the importance of preserving Holocaust memory as eyewitnesses pass away, and the role libraries, educators, and community institutions play in keeping these stories accessible for future generations.
